Telling Your Genuine Family Story to the World
18 June at 12:00 pm EDT
Date & Time: Wednesday, 18 June | 9 am PT, 12 pm ET
Speaker 1: John Chen, CSP, CEO of Engaging Meetings
Speaker 2: Liza Wisner, Head of Talent and Culture Portfolio, OpenSesame
When John Chen shared his grandfather’s immigration story through The Paper Son, many people asked how they too could share their family story in an effective, engaging way.
In this session, you’ll be guided by a master storyteller to choose one of your family stories and craft a narrative that expresses who you are and where you came from. Storytelling, one of the oldest forms of education, is an art and science that can help you communicate more authentically and build connections with others faster.
John Chen is one of just 400 Certified Speaking Professionals recognized by the National Speakers Association. He is the grandson of a “Paper Son,” a term that emerged after the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 severely restricted Chinese immigration. When the San Francisco Earthquake of 1906 destroyed the city’s Town Hall, which housed birth and immigration records, some Chinese businessmen claimed US birth or familial ties to gain legal residency. Those individuals became known as “Paper Sons.”
John Chen is the proud founder of APIEventProfs and API+ NSA, and for decades has advocated for elevating Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders in the meetings industry.
In this webinar, you’ll learn how to:
- Structure a family story
- Select a family story that supports your goals
- Create a draft of your story with expert coach guidance
