Introducing Intern Class of Summer 2013 (Part II)

This week the last group of the Intern Class of Summer 2013 began here at OpenSesame. These fresh faced, bright eyed students join our current group, bringing the grand total to nine interns. Many have already had posts featured on our blog, so be on the lookout for more to come!

Joe Becic

I am currently a sophomore finance major at Santa Clara University and this is my second summer working as a marketing intern for OpenSesame. I am very excited to be back, as the constructive, exciting feel of working in a tech startup is unrivaled by any other work experience I’ve had. One of my favorite aspects of OpenSesame is the flat structure of the office because it means my ideas for content and site improvements are heard and my work is contributing to tangible goals. As a native Portlander, it is great to see a group of hard-charging entrepreneurs defining Portland’s “tech bubble.” With the eLearning industry poised for growth over the next few years, I am excited to pursue my interests in entrepreneurship and business while gaining valuable work experience and transferable writing skills at OpenSesame. Aside from work, I enjoy pursuing creative outlets such as writing songs on the piano and producing a wide range of musical genres on my computer. When I’m at school in Silicon Valley, I play on the Santa Clara Men’s Club Lacrosse team and try to get away to Santa Cruz whenever I can to practice my newest past time--surfing (when the season is good).

Kaitlyn Chock

I was born and raised on the beautiful island of Hawai’i and I cannot stop talking about my sunny hometown. In 2010, I moved to Oregon to attend the the University of Oregon. Go Ducks! I am currently studying public relations, communication studies and humanities. I believe I have found my passion in public relations as I am borderline obsessed with social media and its effect on branding.

I am excited to learn more about the growing elearning marketplace and to be involved with a company dedicated to making knowledge more accessible.

Conor Carlton

I am a Portland native who is currently studying at Portland State University. I am a Portlander through and through--I love to run, ski, hike, and dine in the area. I am very passionate about film and music, and am fascinated by the changing role of these mediums on the internet. I am very experienced in the field of video production, and love the collaborative aspect of that kind of work.

Interning at OpenSesame is a new kind of experience for me, and one I look forward to tremendously.

I also wanted to introduce our Lead Marketing Interns for the summer, who have been busy preparing for our current class since mid-May.

Kate Cornelius

I recently earned my Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Pittsburgh in anthropology, psychology, and women’s studies. My passion for business and marketing stems from my experiences working almost full time during college. I’m very excited to be working for a startup, especially one as awesome as OpenSesame.

When I’m not working, I enjoy biking (to and from work everyday), reading, doing yoga, following the NHL (go Penguins!), and exploring Oregon. My passions include snowboarding, social media, and cooking/baking.

Katie Layendecker

Last summer, I was one of the Business Development and Search Engine Optimization Interns for OpenSesame, writing content for the website and establishing business relationships with content providers. This summer, I am responsible for writing for the site and managing the work of the other interns as a Lead Marketing Intern. I’m currently a junior at Davidson College, studying gender and economics.

When I am not working or studying, I enjoy reading feminist blogs and the New York Times, walking my dogs, and watching sports. A member of the Davidson crew team, I have a passion for all sports and am an avid Stanford fan. I grew up in Palo Alto, CA and Portland, OR, giving me a true appreciation of nature. I love being able to go on day trips to the beach, the Gorge, and the mountains.
