Quarter 1 is moving along quickly for the OpenSesame Development Team. We are making great progress on our OpenSesame Plus functionality, we have welcomed a new member to our team, and we have released some new capabilities available for folks interested in the Tin Can API.
What is OpenSesame Plus?
OpenSesame Plus is a new subscription based model for purchasing OpenSesame courses. For one low monthly price, OpenSesame Plus subscribers receive unlimited access to a curated offering of courses from many of our top providers. Courses cover topics on business skills, compliance, technology and more. The development team is working on some snazzy new functionality to let you explore OpenSesame Plus pricing, pick and choose which learners receive which courses, grant access to the entire library, or view reports on what training your learners are taking. Stay tuned—I'm really excited to get these features in front of you!
Welcome Zigmund to the team!
Our development team has grown! We just welcomed a new team member, Zig, in our Portland office. Zig brings many years of Senior Software Engineering experience to the team. He has worked in the semiconductor industry and the financial sector and enjoys programming robots. He has worked on many successful software projects in the past and is ready to take on the smart challenges the elearning industry brings.
OpenSesame and The Tin Can API, aka The Experience API, aka xAPI
We're very excited to announce that OpenSesame now supports Tin Can statement forwarding and LTI course launch!
Don't worry if you don't know any or all of those acronyms and nicknames. Tin Can, or Experience API, is the latest specification for elearning interoperability (a modernized alternate to SCORM or AICC standards) and offers a multitude of new features including improved record portability, better support for mobile and offline learning, and more detailed reporting of student activity. OpenSesame can now convert SCORM and AICC results to the new Tin Can format and forward these Tin Can statements to any 3rd party LRS (Learning Record Store). Soon, we will add the ability to load and deliver courses authored to the Tin Can specification.
We have also added an LTI course launcher to OpenSesame. LTI is an alternate course format option for our LMS customers who are using an LMS that supports LTI (Learning Tools Interoperability), but does not support SCORM or AICC.
Still baffled? Don't worry, it's a little confusing. LTI (Learning Tools Interoperability) is the way that the courses are launched, Tin Can is the format of the learner data being tracked, and the LRS (Learning Record Store) is the system where the Tin Can records are received and stored for reporting purposes. Rustici Software has created a wonderfully informative page with more details and additional links all about it. Check it out it here.
Keep an eye out for future dev team updates! We'll share them here on the blog throughout the year.
