Corio Generation, an award-winning global offshore wind developer, dedicated to harnessing renewable ocean energy, was founded two years ago. The company has grown rapidly, with employees based in Europe, Asia, the Pacific and the Americas.

Training team members around the world can be challenging, but Corio Generation created a single, centralised learning solution for their global workforce using OpenSesame and 360Learning platforms.

“Corio Generation’s diverse job roles have varied learning needs and preferences,” explains Darren McCabe, Head of Employee Experience and HR Partnering at Corio Generation. “As a company committed to the planet, our employees, and the community, we prioritised safety and initially focused on mandatory compliance training.”

Championing a learning culture

Corio Generation wants to offer all learners very targeted training.

“We have nominated learning champions across each of our departments,” continues McCabe. “Their role is to assess the needs of that particular department and guide learners to find the learning they need from what we have on offer.”

He goes on to explain that, “when employees join the organisation, we have a learning path on the 360Learning platform that is part of their induction. We have a corporate onboarding programme, and department learning champions can supplement this with department-specific training.”

Strategic partnerships

After evaluating several solutions, Corio Generation chose OpenSesame and 360Learning for their seamless integration and excellent user experience. With support from both organisations, OpenSesame and 360Learning, Corio Generation quickly implemented their new learning platform solution, receiving valuable input during internal process changes.

“In a relatively short time we have built strong, strategic relationships with OpenSesame and 360Learning. Their teams know our needs well and proactively help us by highlighting new content and product features as soon as they become available,”

“In a relatively short time we have built strong, strategic relationships with OpenSesame and 360Learning. Their teams know our needs well and proactively help us by highlighting new content and product features as soon as they become available,” notes McCabe.

“It is beneficial that both OpenSesame and 360Learning have very knowledgeable teams who are experts in both systems. This makes things really easy for us as we can get support from both teams without the need to contact them separately,” he adds.

A one-stop learning shop

The 360Learning and OpenSesame integration offers Corio Generation a central learning solution for content creation, learning paths, and robust reporting tools.

“Learners can access the OpenSesame content we have selected within the 360Learning platform,” says McCabe. “We implemented the two solutions at the same time, and they work very well together, so we had a quick and smooth roll-out.”

The impact of this joint solution was apparent almost immediately. According to McCabe: “the integrated learning solution has already significantly impacted our learner engagement. Following the rollout, the satisfaction score for appropriate learning and development has risen from 46 percent to 72 percent in just one year.”

Increasing learner engagement

With their strategic focus and investment in learning and development, Corio Generation wants to make sure they retain talent and improve employee performance.

McCabe continues: “We have worked hard on implementing a learning culture across the whole organisation, and we have already seen great results from our investments in learning and development. Ninety-seven percent of our employees met their annual targets. We have a strategic approach to close skills gaps quickly by providing targeted learning to our employees.

“The OpenSesame catalogue offers thousands of courses, so once a quarter we issue an online learning newsletter to highlight relevant content. We have also organised events to showcase the learning solution and how to navigate it. Employees can share feedback through learning champions for continuous improvement.”

Refreshing content based on analytics and reporting

“Currently 96 percent of our employees are active on the learning platform. Our course completion rate is 83 percent and learning path session completion rate is 95 percent. We ask learners to rate the content, and we use all that feedback to ensure the content we offer is what our learners want,” says McCabe.

The 360Learning platform has comprehensive reporting capabilities, enabling Corio Generation to automatically send reports to the learning champions and line managers.

Corio Generation has already been able to reduce in-house content creation, which gives huge time and cost savings over time.

Broadening the scope by adding other topics

“Our focus quickly shifted from compliance training to broader development topics such as line management, leadership skills and well-being,” says McCabe.

“During the recent rapid growth of Corio Generation, the company has seen the need to provide training on topics focusing on employee wellbeing—to improve resilience. At the same time, there is also an increasing need for regular DEI training.

“We are excited about exploring new opportunities to broaden our learning offering to all employees. Now that we have built the strategic foundations and the centralised learning solution, we will continue investing in the learning culture and maintaining learner engagement by offering more content and continuously refreshing it based on our individual learner needs,” concludes McCabe.
