In their third annual report on L&D’s use of AI, sponsored by OpenSesame, authors Donald H. Taylor and Eglė Vinauskaitė highlight a major shift over the past year: for the first time, more than half of respondents are actively using AI.

While content creation remains the most common application, case studies show L&D professionals moving beyond production to reimagining their strategic role within organizations. AI enables faster, cheaper, and broadly accessible content creation, challenging traditional instructional design but also expanding opportunities for impact.
